social studies blog local

Local protesters gather at a local KFC restaurant the protesters protest about the mistreatment of chickens. The Protesters said that KFC was killing their chicken in a inhumane way. The leader of the group of people protesting was part of PETA, or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. His aim for the protest was to raise awareness of what he feels is wrong treatment of chicken. However, writing this blog has made me very hungry for chicken.

Global Warming

This article is about global warming and its other effects besides its name, not only that but it tells about the ozone hole and what its doing. At first I didn't understand anything and it all looked like garbage to me, but then I reread the article and understood the important things. Like that in some areas the ozone layer could change levels forever. Also, if the ozone doesn't get fixed in some areas it will increase the skin cancer risk. This increases the risk of skin cancer because the gasses in the ozone absorb ultraviolet rays. This is why we should work to help stop pollution, which makes the hole in the ozone bigger, causing global warming.

Social studies blog international

The article I chose is about the Tamil Tiger rebels bases are at war with the Sri Lankan army. The article talks about how the rebels and about civilian fears. In their last big battle the Sri Lankan army sunk three rebel boats. The rebels have a little bit of land and are surrounded. However, they are not going to surrender. There are 250,000 civilians trapped between the fighting. 52 civilians died in 24 hours.

Infrared it'll toast your bread!

In science class we were all assigned a type of wave to make an advertising poster for. I was assigned Infrared waves. The requirements for the project were simply to make a poster and a slogan for it. My slogan is, "Infrared, it'll toast your bread". I chose this slogan because its a good slogan, and infrared toasters exist. I worked really hard on this project and want a good grade, I just hope I won't have to present it. I don't like to speak publicly, or even just in front of my class.

Social studies national

I read two inauguration stories. These articles are about Obama's inauguration, however they both have different points of view. Obama's inauguration is national news and made many headlines. I read these two different inauguration stories online at the sites listed below. Both sites named the titles differently but both said that this inauguration marked a new era.
The first article, CNN, was a great source for news. The article gave a good description about what happened and Obama's speech. It even included what happened after the inauguration. CNN also included that Obama swore on the same bible Abe Lincoln swore on. Along with important facts about the inauguration, it also included quotes from Obama himself like "The time has come to set aside childish things.". The point of view CNN used, and the title of their article makes it sounded like they were exited to have a new president.
AOL talked about the article differently, but still seemed exited based on their title and text. They had a long and interesting article, they also included good facts. One quote they used from Obama was "It is the kindness to take in a stranger when the levees break, the selflessness of workers who would rather cut their hours than see a friend lose their job which sees us through our darkest hours," Unlike CNN their article had pictures and videos, making their article slightly more interesting. Also the included some not as important facts that CNN did not include.
I for one am very exited about having a new president. I am looking forward to the change Obama promised.

Do the Wave!!

In science we started the topic waves. Waves are how energy travels. Sounds kind of boring right, but it is actually interesting. I enjoy learning about the environment around me and this is an important part. However, my teacher says "We are only scratching the surface.". Even if we are only scratching the surface it is still teaching me something.
